This New Design Hotel in Paris Is Inspired by Japanese Ryokan and the Belle Époque
Exploring the Fusion of Cultures at Hotel Hana
Wander through the side streets surrounding the Quatre Septembre metro station, in the heart of Paris’s 2nd arrondissement, and a few surprises await. Perhaps you’ll pass an izakaya-style pub serving beer and yakitori, as if plucked directly from one of the alleys near Shinjuku station; or, while ambling down Rue Saint-Anne, stumble upon a tiny café serving green tea and dorayaki pancakes. It may appear, at first glance, to be a classic Haussmannian neighborhood with grand boulevards and mansard roofs, yet this bustling area, nicknamed “Little Tokyo,” not only boasts some of the best places to eat in town, but it has also retained a spirit of independence and cultural identity all too rare in central Paris.
The Concept Behind Hotel Hana
Stepping into the fray this week is Hotel Hana, the latest design-led property from the boutique hospitality group Addresses Hotels. Launched in 2016 by the energetic and—by hotelier standards, anyway—relatively young entrepreneur Nicolas Saltiel, the collection features eight hotels (six in Paris, two in the south of France) conceived as home-away-from-home stays that are firmly in conversation with their environs. When creating Hotel Hana, Saltiel turned to creative director Oliver Leone and interior designer Laura Gonzalez to bring their vision to life.
The Interior Design of Hotel Hana
From the outside, Hotel Hana’s presence is relatively subdued but once you step inside, you are greeted with a mix of influences that blend Japanese minimalism with Belle Époque flair. The interiors feature an eclectic mix of influences ranging from Wong Kar-Wai film stills to the stylings of Prada campaigns and the nearby metro station. The rooms on the seventh floor offer stunning views and a mix of Japanese and French design elements.
The Culinary Experience at Hanabi Restaurant
Hotel Hana not only offers a visual treat but also a culinary delight at its Hanabi restaurant. The menu blends French and Japanese traditions, offering dishes like succulent steak tartare and miso-sauced udon. The restaurant’s interior design complements the dining experience, creating a harmonious atmosphere.
Immersive Local Experience
While Hotel Hana is in close proximity to major Parisian attractions, the hotel itself offers a unique and immersive experience. Guests can enjoy browsing local bookstores, exploring nearby boutiques, or indulging in a bowl of kake udon at a local noodle joint. The hotel aims to integrate seamlessly into the local culture while providing a luxurious retreat for its guests.
Hotel Hana is not just a place to stay; it’s a destination that offers a blend of cultures, design, and culinary experiences unlike any other. Whether you’re a fashion enthusiast, a foodie, or simply looking for a serene getaway in the heart of Paris, Hotel Hana promises an unforgettable stay.
