Ryan Gosling’s ‘I’m Just Ken’ Oscars Performance Had So Many Hidden References
The Set
Reminiscent of the iconic “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” set from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, the stage was awash in hot pink, and framed ’60s Barbie heads and empty champagne flutes were used as dance props.
The suits worn by the performers were also a nod to the classic Marilyn Monroe look in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
The hats featured in the performance were a reference to Ken’s Westerncore aesthetic.
The choreography paid homage to big-budget movie musicals of the past, aligning with Gerwig’s vision for Barbie.

Mark Ronson, Slash, and Wolfgang Van Halen were among the talented musicians who contributed to the performance.

Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Scott Evans appeared as Kens in the performance, reflecting their roles in the movie.
