Introduction

Are you ready for your next TV obsession? Apple TV+ revealed the first photos from its new series Palm Royale late last year, and honestly, the visuals alone will hook you before you even realize it stars Kristen Wiig and Laura Dern. Now comes the trailer, which is even more spectacular than you could ever imagine. (Wait till you see it, below). Loosely based on the novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie by Juliet McDaniel, Palm Royal follows Maxine Simmons (Wiig) “as she endeavors to break into Palm Beach high society” in “the powder keg year of 1969.” So, basically, if you’re still missing Mad Men but secretly wished it were a comedy, this may be the show for you.

Release Date

The first three episodes of Palm Royale will hit Apple TV+ on March 20, 2024, with new episodes airing every Wednesday until May 8.

Behind the Scenes

Aside from their starring roles, Wiig and Dern will serve as executive producers alongside writer Abe Sylvia. Sylvia is also directing the series alongside Tate Taylor, Claire Scanlon, and Stephanie Laing.

The Cast

  • Allison Janney
  • Ricky Martin
  • Kaia Gerber
  • Josh Lucas
  • Leslie Bibb
  • Amber Chardae Robinson
  • Mindy Cohn

Living legend Carol Burnett, as well as Dern’s own father, Bruce Dern, will also make “extra special” guest appearances in the series.

Plot

Palm Royale is a true underdog story that follows Maxine Simmons (Wiig) as she endeavors to break into Palm Beach high society. As Maxine attempts to cross that impermeable line between the haves and the have-nots, Palm Royale asks the same question that still baffles us today: “How much of yourself are you willing to sacrifice to get what someone else has?” Set during the powder keg year of 1969, Palm Royale is a testament to every outsider fighting for their chance to truly belong.

Trailer

Oh yes, there is a trailer, and it’s delicious in every way. Mark my words, Palm Royale is going to inspire all your vacation looks from this point forward.
