Angel Reese’s Met Gala 2024: A Journey from Chicago to NYC
Discover how Angel Reese transformed her day, starting with WNBA practice and culminating in a stunning appearance at the 2024 Met Gala.
From Practice Court to Red Carpet
What does one do when faced with the challenge of attending an iconic event like the Met Gala on the same day as a WNBA practice? For Angel Reese, it was all about seamless transition and impeccable timing. On this memorable day, not only did she celebrate her 22nd birthday but also marked her debut at the Met Gala.
The Journey Begins
Angel’s journey to the Met Gala began in Chicago after a rigorous practice session with the WNBA. With efficiency and grace, she boarded a private jet directly from the gym, illustrating her remarkable ability to juggle her professional commitments while embracing life’s grand moments.
“I’m super excited and just taking it all in,” shares Reese. “Being here on my 22nd birthday is surreal.”
Styling for the Gala
Angel teamed up with fashion virtuoso Naomi Elizeé, who previously styled her for draft day and a major professional announcement. Together, they selected an enchanting custom ensemble from 16Arlington.
The Dress
Designed by Marco Capaldo, the dress was inspired by pieces from the fall 2023 collection “Wake,” which embodies themes of reawakening and new beginnings. The stunning gown featured a sequin bodice layered with lace and hand-applied appliqués, topped with a halo of ostrich feathers at the waist—perfectly aligning with the Met Gala’s theme, “The Garden of Time.”
- Custom Stuart Weitzman shoes completed the look.
- Accents included jewels by Bernard James, Briony Raymond, and Material Good.
The Final Touches
Angel’s transformation was completed with expert hair and makeup. Bella June styled her hair into a sleek ponytail while Deja Blackwell crafted an understated yet bold beauty look, emphasizing glossy lips and striking lashes.
“Using fashion as a vehicle for creativity is something I love,” explains Reese. “It’s amazing to see the fashion industry embracing the WNBA—and female athletes overall.”
