Last night’s 2024 Met Gala was a dazzling display of fashion and beauty. Among the many stars gracing the red carpet, Miss Simone Ashley stood out with an iconic Cher-inspired look that left everyone in awe.
Channelling a Music Legend
The Met Gala is known for its bold fashion statements and Simone Ashley’s ensemble was no exception. With the theme “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” the event allowed artists to draw inspiration from various sources, including legendary icons like Cher.
Make-up artist Hung Vanngo crafted a beauty look that paid homage not only to Cher but also incorporated elements reflecting the exhibition’s themes of land, sea, and sky. He emphasized how the concept was rooted in recreating Cher’s signature style from the 1970s with modern twists.
Statement Eyes and Mauve Lips
Central to Ashley’s look were the bold eyes, reminiscent of Cher’s iconic ’70s makeup. Vanngo employed a striking purple eyeshadow—L’Oréal Paris’s Colour Riche Eyeshadow Palette in Violet Amour—to create statement eyes that demanded attention.
The precision application of mauve lipstick perfectly complemented the midnight-blue sequined dress by Prabal Gurung, creating a harmonious blend of colors and textures. This combination not only highlighted Ashley’s features but also aligned beautifully with the water-inspired theme of the exhibition.
The Perfect Hair Transformation
Hair stylist Shon Hyungsun Ju, inspired by Cher’s iconic style, aimed to create a floor-length hair look. However, after some reflection, he decided to infuse elements reminiscent of Botticelli’s art—emphasizing soft waves and an ethereal goddess-like quality.
Starting with straightening Ashley’s natural curls, Shon used a curling iron to craft a large, flat wave that cascaded down her back. The look was perfected using L’Oréal’s Shine Serum for extra gloss and Elnett hairspray to maintain the style throughout the evening.
Cher-Inspired Nails: A Touch of Elegance
To complete her Cher-inspired ensemble, manicurist Betina Goldstein designed long almond nails for Ashley. Using press-on nails by Après Nail Official, the nails were coated in navy gel and adorned with elongated gunmetal crystals that mirrored the crystal embellishments on her dress.
